If your home has fleas, laundry can deal with suitable bedding, blankets, throws and clothing, but only those textiles. It does not treat the carpets, the furniture or the animal. This guide explains what to separate, how to bag a flea-affected load, what to tell a laundry service, and how to fit laundry around the pet and property treatment you arrange separately.
In brief: wash suitable flea-affected textiles as the care label allows, keep them sealed and separate until they are handed over, and arrange pet and property treatment separately. MyLaundress assesses flea-affected loads by enquiry rather than through a separate flea booking option.
What laundry can realistically handle
- Washable pet beds and removable covers, blankets and throws used by pets.
- Bedding, duvet covers and pillowcases from rooms the pet uses.
- Washable clothing and towels kept in the same rooms.
- Cushion covers and sofa throws that can be removed and washed.
What laundry cannot handle: fitted carpets, upholstered furniture, mattresses that cannot be washed, and the animal itself. The NHS notes that fleas are usually linked to pets and advises treating pets and the home. Laundry is one supporting step.
How MyLaundress handles a flea-affected load
We have no separate flea service to book, and no flea option has been added to our booking app. Instead, tell us what the textiles are and what happened, and we will confirm whether the items are suitable and which existing service applies. Suitable washable pet bedding and blankets may fit our pet laundry service. We do not accept collars, harnesses, toys, non-washable foam inserts, or items with flea treatment still wet on them.
Bagging a flea-affected load
- Collect items straight into strong bags in the room where they are, rather than carrying loose bedding through the home.
- Close each bag securely and label it only with a simple description such as 'pet bedding, flea problem'.
- Keep the bags closed and away from clean laundry until collection.
- Remove anything not accepted: collars, toys, foam inserts that cannot be washed, and anything recently treated and still wet.
- List items with uncertain or dry-clean-only labels separately, so they can be assessed first.
Timing laundry around pet and property treatment
Ask your vet or pet professional how to treat the animal, and your pest control provider how to prepare the property. Then agree a collection time that fits, so clean bedding does not come back into a room before treatment has started. We are not a pest control or veterinary service and cannot advise on treatment products.
Coverage
Specialist laundry is available in London and across the rest of the United Kingdom, subject to postcode, textile suitability and agreed collection arrangements. Ordinary laundry and everyday dry cleaning remain London services, and London urgent-collection wording is not a national response promise.
Common questions
Can I book flea laundry online?
Not as a separate service. Send an enquiry first. If the items suit an existing service, we will explain how to book it.
Will a hot wash kill every flea and egg?
We do not make that promise. Items are washed and dried as their fabric allows. Some textiles cannot take high temperatures, and the home and pet still need their own treatment.
