Dog beds and pet blankets take a beating, and a domestic machine full of hair isn't much fun. Before you wash or send anything, it helps to know which parts can actually go in a machine. Here's how to work it out.
Start with the care label
Most pet beds have a label on the cover, the inner cushion or both. It tells you the maximum wash temperature, whether it can be tumble dried and whether it can be washed at all. If the label says do not wash, don't wash it — at home or with us.
Removable covers
If the cover unzips, that's usually the part to wash. Covers wash much better on their own, dry faster and keep their shape. Close zips before sending so teeth don't snag other fabric.
Inserts and fillings
- Foam inserts generally can't be machine washed and we don't accept them.
- Fibre-filled cushions are sometimes washable — check the label.
- Beds with a fixed, sewn-in insert depend entirely on the label.
- If you can't find a label, ask before booking.
What we accept for pet laundry
Our pet laundry service covers washable pet bedding and bed covers, pet blankets and throws, cushion covers, towels used for pets and sofa throws used by pets. We don't accept collars, harnesses or toys, non-washable foam inserts, or items with flea treatments still wet on them. Items are processed apart from other customers' laundry in our separate specialist facility.
Drying thoroughly matters
Thick bedding that's put back damp can smell musty within days. Whether you wash at home or send it out, make sure the inside is fully dry, not just the surface. We dry at settings adjusted to the fabric so covers don't shrink or warp.
When to send a photo first
If a bed is large, unusual or has no clear label, add a photo of the care label with your booking note and we'll tell you before washing whether it's suitable. We don't charge one fixed fee for every pet bed, because sizes and fillings vary too much; items are priced by weight under the specialist tariff on the service page.
Shake loose hair and debris off outdoors before bagging. It makes washing more effective and keeps hair out of your car and hallway.
