For a grooming salon, towels are stock, not an afterthought. Run out mid-afternoon and the diary stalls. Wash everything in-house and your machine and dryer become part-time jobs. Here's how to plan regular outsourced towel laundry that actually fits your week.
Estimate your weekly volume
Count how many towels a typical dog uses — often two or three, more for large or double-coated breeds — and multiply by your weekly appointments. Then weigh a stack of ten dry towels on bathroom scales to get an average weight. That gives you a weekly kilogram estimate, which is what laundry is usually priced on.
- Appointments per week × towels per dog = towels per week
- Towels per week × average dry weight = kg per week
- Note your busiest days, as volume is rarely even
Hold enough spare stock
With a collection-and-return cycle, one batch is always away being washed. Plan for at least two full rotations: one in use, one out for laundry. A third rotation gives you a buffer for busy weeks or a missed slot. Towels also wear out faster under daily washing, so budget for replacements.
Choose a schedule and allow for turnaround
Specialist laundry typically takes around two days, subject to available slots. Map that against your diary: for example, collect on Monday for Wednesday return and Thursday for Saturday. Agree regular slots in advance rather than booking ad hoc, so you're not caught short.
Prepare towels for collection
- Shake loose hair off outdoors before bagging.
- Keep towels with shampoo residue or flea treatments separate and mention them.
- Don't include collars, leads, harnesses or toys — we don't accept them.
- Use sturdy bags and don't overfill them.
How we handle pet towels
Pet items are processed in our separate specialist facility, apart from other customers' laundry, washed at 60°C where the fabric allows with specialist detergents and an oxygen-releasing additive, then dried at fabric-appropriate settings. We can't promise every set-in odour disappears, but regular washing stops it building up.
Getting a tailored quote
Send us your estimated weekly kilos or towel count, your salon's postcode and the collection days that suit you. We'll reply with how regular collections could work and what they'd cost. Standard specialist rates are on the pet laundry service page; we don't assume any discount or fixed contract until it's agreed with you.
