When bed bugs are found in a room or flat, residents' clothes and bedding need a plan that runs alongside the pest-control visit. The aim is simple: every bag is traceable to a resident and room, one named person coordinates, nothing returns to an untreated room, and garments that can't take heat are checked first. This guide sets out a practical way to organise that.
This is an operational planning guide, not legal, regulatory or CQC advice. Check your own policies and obligations.
1. Name one authorised contact
Decide who books collections, who receives updates and who can approve quotes. In hostels and supported accommodation this is often a duty manager; in general-needs housing it may be a housing officer working with the resident.
2. Code bags by resident and room
- Use a simple code on each sealed bag, such as a property reference and room number, rather than residents' full names.
- Keep a short item record per bag: number of bags, main item types and any dry-clean-only garments.
- Note any items that are valuable or that the resident especially needs back quickly.
3. Sequence laundry with pest control
- A professional pest controller inspects and plans the treatment.
- Residents or staff bag washable textiles sealed in each room, separating dry-clean-only items.
- Bags are collected together, flagged as possibly affected.
- Clean items return when the pest controller says the room is ready, and stay packed until then.
4. Plan for garments that can't take heat
Not every garment can be washed at 60°C. Make sure residents know that labels matter and that dry-clean-only items will be assessed for suitability first, so nothing is ruined by a blanket hot wash.
5. Replacement linen and return timing
Hold enough clean replacement bedding for residents while their items are away. Booking slots set collection windows; they don't fix how long a specialist load takes, so agree return dates once collection and processing are confirmed.
Coverage and quotes
In London, specialist laundry is collected from every postcode and processed at our separate North Tottenham facility. Elsewhere in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, MyLaundress National coordinates local processing and courier partners, with arrangements confirmed for each location. Send a business enquiry with typical room counts, bag volumes and areas, and we'll set out how collections and pricing can work.
FAQs
Do you provide certificates of eradication?
No. We launder or assess the textiles sent to us. Eradication in a property is the pest controller's role.
Can residents book individually?
Yes, residents can book online themselves. A provider account suits repeat or multi-room work.
